Artists and the mystery of inspiration
One thing that we creatives often get asked is "what inspires you?"..For some this may be a case study. For some, it’s not. Either way we'll come up with a simple answer. An elevator pitch of some sort. Of course it's different for everybody.
I am truly inspired by nature, children and life. I’m inspired by children’s drawings and the adults who makes creative spaces to enhance it. We are all creative beings…even saying that someone is “creative “ is redundant to me. It could be from baking a pie or making a building.
When it comes to the creative process in painting or writing, all the best ideas come out of this process. They come out of the work itself. It comes out when we show up in front of the blank canvas, the white room or the blank page. I know, this takes courage my friends.
One of the best advice for artists waiting for inspiration most of the time, waiting to be “in the mood” or “in the zone” or “the right place” etc. is…
”Inspiration is for amateurs”. Just show up and everything will follow. Just be.
As Henri Matisse said, Don’t try to be original. Be simple. Be good technically, and if there is something good in you it will come out.
So when we create something new, relax about the future and let it go. Enjoy the day a little bit more. It’s very difficult to accomplish something when we are stressed out over the outcome, right?
Relax and be peaceful, be inspired.
Inspired comes from the word “in spirit”. When you are IN SPIRIT you are inspired.
Be consumed in the now.
I believe we are all capable at times of brushing up against a sense of mystery and inspiration in our lives!
