‘I Am Red’ is part of Maggie José’s ‘I Am’ series.

Exposed yet at ease, the figure embraces her naturalness secured behind a mask of vivid color. Instead of her shame, the red signifies her inner fire, and willingness to accept, only on her own terms, the gaze of the viewer.

Color and typography are in dialogue at the core of an identity masked yet on also on display. Beyond language, color consumes our perceptual field. Language, on the other hand, marks the construction of a self, here summarized in a simple yet powerful declaration of personal territory.

The red color, vivid and basic, represents the world as a magic grid of infinite possibilities and mental transformations out of which new versions of our selves can emerge.
